!What is the Activity Check for the game?
We don't have a formal activity check anymore. Instead, we just have a monthly check-in. Just tick the boxes next to the characters you'd like to continue playing in the game, otherwise they'll be purged once the check-in period has ended. If you need to take a hiatus, then just let us know here, so you don't have to check-in for that month. If there are extenuating circumstances, then please e-mail us.
!What type of characters are allowed in the game?
All types of characters are allowed as long as they’re sentient, however, be mindful of the game tone! We reserve the right to reject characters we feel are not appropriate for the game, or that might make things stressful for their fellow teammates.
Please also keep in mind that large characters will be scaled down to reasonable human sizes.
Please also keep in mind that large characters will be scaled down to reasonable human sizes.
!Is there an age limit?
We would like characters in the game to be at least 16 years old, as the game may deal with violent or sexual themes on some minigames. For characters who in canon already deal with mature content, extreme violence etc, exceptions could be made on a case by case basis. If you are not sure your character would fit, send an email to mwmtechnicians@gmail.com with the character name and canon so that we can research.
!Are doubles allowed?
We allow doubles so long as they are substantially different from the other version that was applied. This means that if we have the canon version of Winnie the Pooh in game, a double is allowed but the AU can’t just be a matter of “this Winnie dislikes honey”. In addition to this, all doubles need to ask permission to app from the person currently playing a version of the same character. Remember that comfort comes first, and no one HAS to say yes to a double request.
!What about CRAUs?
CRAUs can be apped, however, they will have the following limitations:
- You can only get previous memories/CR from one game, so no multiple games stacking
- You can get powers from that previous game, but they're subject to the same limitations of everyone else.
- You must have player's permission to recognize a character you had previous CR with. This doesn't just mean not mentioning it, if the player isn't comfortable with your character knowing them, they will have no memories of that character.

!Are apps always open? What about placements?
Apps will always be open, however, placements will happen at a suitable IC time. This can be after/before a big game - we try to make sure it'll be at a time where everyone will have the chance to intro with no stress.
!How many characters can I app?
We no longer have a character cap. We trust you to know your limits.
!How does time pass in the game?
We are keeping to a 3:1 ratio! This means that it’s 1 IC day for every 3 OOC days. Please make sure to keep this in mind when making new posts, and do not push time forward too fast.
!What happens when a character dies?
Death is not permanent in Shadowpeaks. A few hours after their death ( minimum ) characters will be revived in the graveyard ( if during a game ) or in the morgue ( if any other time ). However, due to the energy required to revive them they don't come back whole. Every time somebody is revived they'll temporarily lose something; a memory, a sense, a feeling, and so on. Whatever they lose will come back in ~1-3 days, depending on how long you'd like to play with it.
!What are the brands?
Upon reaching Shadowpeaks, every character will be assigned to a sin and every sin will put a “brand” on the character. This brand will not only grant them some special powers, but it will also act as a seal to keep a character's powers capped. See below for more information on powers.
!Are powers capped?
Yes. As soon as a character has been branded by a sin their powers will become capped. Originally characters didn't have access to any of their abilities, but after a conversation that several hapless residents had with the Overseer of the Infinite Void, the God of Time, he broke a portion of the seal that's keeping everybody from having ( and using ) their canon & pgau abilities. *** As of Day 51 the entirety of Shadowpeaks will feel a seismic shockwave ripple throughout it, with its center being at the research facility. From this point on your character's abilities have been restored. Keep in mind that canon & pgau abilities are still much weaker than sin abilities - 50% vs 100% respectively. If your character needs a conduit of some kind to be able to use, cast, channel, summon, etc their abilities, then they'll still have to get that through a burden.
I also think this goes without saying but please don't use your canon & pgau abilities to completely disrupt the game's tone. Just like game-breaking abilities like invulnerability, time travel, immunity to death, and excessive healing canon & pgau abilities that conjure food, cleanse water, generate electricity, etc should still be heavily nerfed and/or restricted. Just try not to go too crazy.
For characters who may lose control of their canon powers, since this has the potential to be difficult to judge on a case by case basis, if your character canonly can lose control of his powers, please know that even when they do their powers will STILL be capped - in no circumstances powers can be stronger than sin abilities. This means that if losing control normally causes a big wave of out of control power + the character's abilities becoming stronger, that will have to be significantly nerfed so it's still not as powerful as sin abilities (so, someone using sin ability can easily overcome that) or not come into play at all. To give an example with Wuthering Waves, Resonator can overclock under extreme overuse of their powers or significant emotional trauma - this can results in an out of control wave of power, loss of sanity and body modification. In Shadowpeaks if Brant were to overclock, I would do away with the wave of power that could hit all people in the vicinity, and just keep loss of sanity and body horror. If I did keep the wave of power, it would not be enough to, say, kill everyone close to him in that moment.

!What if my character can talk to animals?
If your character can talk to animals in their canon, you may roleplay them being able to understand the gist of what smaller, docile animals like birds, rabbits, dogs, or cats are saying. However, they will not be able to understand or speak to larger, hostile animals like sharks or bears. Additionally, animals cannot be used to report on what other characters are doing or general happenings in the game itself (such as new monsters or locations appearing). They can't be used to learn something that your character doesn't know themselves.
!What does my character arrive with?
All characters arrive in ( and with ) nothing but the clothes on their backs. Any items they had on their person will also have been confiscated. If the clothing is magical or had magical properties, then they're null & void, but because that kind of stuff can be earned back ( see below ) you should probably pick another, regular set of clothing in the meantime. For example, if you play Ryuko, then instead of having her arrive in Senketsu, since you can have her earn him back later, you can just have her arrive in a normal set of school clothes.
!What are 'Burdens'?
'Burdens' are special tasks that characters can accomplish to get fabulous prizes. If there's a specific item that you'd like, then you can request it from your assigned Apostle and they'll give you a task to complete to earn it... assuming they're willing to indulge you. They don't necessarily have to. You can also ask for room upgrades! but these will usually be minimal quality of life improvements, since your living conditions ( at least to start ) are sub par at best. As for the tasks, themselves, we ask that you at least put some effort into completing them! even if you don't necessarily see some of the larger ones through to the end, because we understand that wrangling people can definitely get pretty hectic.
!What kind of stuff can 'Burdens' get me?
Your character can get their own armor, clothes, personal effects, sentimental trinkets, weapons, etc this way too. Please avoid asking for something special that doesn't belong to your character, like Dante ( Devil May Cry ) asking for Yamato or Wanderer ( Genshin Impact ) asking for Tome of the Eternal Flow. Yes, they're capable of using these weapons, but they technically don't belong to them, and if their true owners ever apped to the game, then they'd be theirs to claim. However, things that aren't character specific in their world may certainly be up for grabs. If you're unsure, then just ask!
!What are minigames, and what are they like?
Minigames are short-term events in which characters are grouped into teams and will have to play in order to obtain favor from the demons or just to, you know, survive. Some of these may be harmless, some of these may be intense and pit everybody against one another. OOCly they can last a few hours or a few days, depending on the type of game that’s being played. Details and rules will be disclosed with each game.
!Are there monsters and zombies lying around the place? Where?
Yes! Shadowpeaks is not safe, and danger is always lurking. You can refer to the Bestiary to know what monsters there are and where they live.
!What happens if my character tries to leave?
The short answer is they can't leave and the long answer is there's an invisible ( and indestructible ) barrier surrounding the entirety of Shadowpeaks that prevents them from doing so. Four walls encompass the town, all of which extend a mile into the ground and a mile into the sky, with a ceiling and a floor to enclose it. Attempting to pass through the results in electrocution and potentially death, depending on how determined your character is. As previously stated, it's invisible, but the charred and damaged trees it cuts through give subtle clues to the harrowing property line. *** As of Day 51 the perimeter fence around Shadowpeaks has been reinforced. The closer your character gets to the fence the less likely they'll be able to use any of their abilities. If they touch the fence, then not only is there a good chance they'll die, but then all of their abilities will also stop working for an IC day. If they died, then this effect will persist even after they've revived.
!What is Shadowpeaks, and who do the Technicians work for?
Shadowpeaks is a beautiful town where nothing bad ever happens and everyone can find love, joy, and fulfillment! Or maybe it’s just a creepy place crawling with monsters. The place appears like any old town would, just a little bit more abandoned and destroyed. It has been selected as the place to conduct ritual sacrifices, which are arranged by the Technicians. The Technicians work for demons, for whom they’re collecting energy. It is not clear why they are doing this.
!How do characters show up in game?
Every time a character is brought into Shadowpeaks, they wake up in a jail cell in the prison/asylum with no memory of how they got there. They arrive with only the clothes on their backs and an old flip-phone, as well as a brand to mark their sin placed somewhere on their body and innate knowledge of their sin's abilities.
!Will characters have phones?
Yes. Your character will be get a phone shortly after their arrival, but the phone, itself, isn't anything special, as it's an old flip phone. It can be used to make calls, send texts, take pictures, read profiles, and find maps.
!What is the place like?
With the exception of monsters here and there, the technicians, and the characters in-game, the place is pretty much deserted. Buildings are in disrepair and left exactly as they were back when people, supposedly, lived in them. For more information about the locations, please head here.
Overall, the vibe we want people to have is of a deserted down that looks completely abandoned.
Overall, the vibe we want people to have is of a deserted down that looks completely abandoned.
!What is the weather like in Shadowpeaks?
The weather is controlled by technicians, and does not follow any specific meteorological pattern. One day it could be snowing and the next one it could be scorching hot. It all depends on what suits the needs of the technicians at any given time.
!Can my character find the Facility?
Kind of. *** Following the Zombie Game on Day 51 the electric fence surrounding the Research Facility is no longer active, so characters can freely enter the Backrooms. Now and then the mods will run exploradoras, so characters can enter the facility and uncover some of its secrets. However, if one of these isn't being run, then your characters will either end up wandering the infinite labyrinth of the Backrooms or killed by one of the monsters lurking within.
!I want to canon update my character! How can I do it?
All characters can be canon updated at any time, however, to do so a character will need to either die in the game, or they will get knocked out and dragged to the facility, and then released. Up to you!
!What happens when a character gets dropped?
Characters that get dropped are kept in the facility. This, however, is not ICly known for now, so as far as characters will know, they disappear. They cannot be visited, but don’t worry, the technicians will take good care of them :)
!My character is back from canon update/hiatus/drop. How do they reappear?
Dropped characters will appear in the basement of their sin house and characters returning from hiatus will reappear in the graveyard!
!Are there supplies or currencies characters can earn?
Characters will have a minimum amount of food/water to keep them alive. Anything else must be earned or won.
!How long does it take for planted flowers, fruits, or vegetables to grow?
If your character planted them in a greenhouse, then it'll take 5 IC days, otherwise it'll take 8 IC days.
!Are there any IC language barriers?
Everyone will magically be able to understand each other at all times and speak/understand all language, including sign language.
!Is there electricity and running water in Shadowpeaks?
All the buildings in the cul-de-sac will have both electricity and running water, but the majority of places will have nothing… with a few exceptions that will be noted on the locations page.
!Do characters keep scars from game/after death?
When a character dies, the technicians will restore the body exactly as it was before the time of death. If you don’t want to play with scars you can assume technicians messed up and healed a scar they were not supposed to. Likewise, if you want to keep a scar from an awful death, you can assume they accidentally left it in.
!My character needs to eat flesh/drink blood to survive! Will blood and bodies be supplied for them?
These will not be directly supplied, however, there are Many Corpses around Shadowpeaks. It’s free real estate.
!Do characters arrive with amnesia?
No, all characters will come with at least SOME memories of their life, or all of them. You can choose how much or how little they remember. In addition to their real set of memories, however, every character will also somehow remember having LIVED in Shadowpeaks. They will remember a peaceful and vibrant town that they loved at some point in their lives, but had to eventually leave. Furthermore, they will remember WANTING to return to it as they started feeling like something was wrong in it, and it was up to them to find out what.
!How soon can you app a character from a canon that has just been released?
You can app them as soon as you wish to, however, if it’s a recent canon/a character from an event that has just been released, please mark for spoilers.
!Can I app a malleable protagonist / MMO main character?
At this time we do not allow this type of character in game. If you’re not sure what counts, let us know!
!Are OCs allowed?
Yes.

- Acedia is a completely different animal and will always be considered a separate entity. It doesn’t factor into a person’s character count.
- Each player can only have (1) character in the game. Some players, like yourself, got their second character grandfathered, so we were going to make you drop them, because of our policy change. However, if you drop one of your characters, then you will not be able to replace them. You’d have to drop both of them to be able to app somebody new.
- Eventually we may open apps for seconds again, but unfortunately they’re closed until further notice.
